For teachers
Our 100% free workshops are an excellent way to supplement ELA curriculum and are designed to jumpstart student interest in the literary arts, as well as guide them through the basics of creative writing. We offer free in-person workshops for schools located in the greater Seattle area as well as free online workshops for schools in other locations in the US.

For students grades 2-7
If you’re a student in grades 2-7, we offer free in-person and afterschool workshops where we’ll teach you the basics of creative writing. Although there is no “right” way to write, our workshops will still offer you valuable insight into core tenets of writing that your favorite authors use all the time.
We employ a mix of interactive activities, group and individual writing time, and module-based lectures in order to make workshops as fun and engaging as possible. Click the link below to sign up for either an in-person or online workshop–both of which are completely free!
For other young writers
For writers ages 11-18, we offer publishing opportunities in our sister journal, Inkroot Lit. We’re also seeking additional members for our staff, so sign up if you want to join the committed community of young writers at The Inkroot Project!

Why The Inkroot Project
For teachers, Inkroot gives students a chance to dive deeper into creative writing outside the classroom. We offer spaces where young people can play with language, build confidence, and explore their ideas through writing. Our programs are designed to complement your teaching and help students see writing as a powerful and personal tool.
