Our Mission

The Inkroot Project is a literary arts nonprofit based in the greater Seattle area. We believe in the power of creative writing to transform, delight, and surprise; to bring people together in difficult times; to critique current structures and provide us with the hope to imagine new ones; and to allow students to become more confident in expressing their own stories through their own voice. We believe especially in the wonderful, irreplaceable art that flourishes when young people first encounter and learn to embrace the literary arts.

We seek to guide young writers along every step of their literary journey, starting in elementary school and continuing all throughout high school. Our programs are designed to pique their interest in creative writing, give them the literary techniques and tools to write their first pieces, guide them through the revision/publication process, and connect them with a community of young writers all working in tandem to create art that matters to them.

Our Team

The Inkroot Project was founded by young writers, for young writers. Our team is dedicated, hardworking, and passionate about providing fun and collaborative creative writing instruction for students across the Puget Sound.

Our team is quite small right now, and we’re looking to expand as much as possible! As such, staff applications are currently open. Visit the “join now” page if you’re a student or young writer interesting in joining our team.
