about us
Based in Seattle, The Inkroot Project is a nonprofit that empowers teens and young people to grow as writers. We offer workshops, mentorship, and publishing opportunities to help young voices take root and thrive.

Our Mission
The Inkroot Project is a literary arts nonprofit based in the greater Seattle area. We’re here to support underserved, marginalized, and developing voices by helping them connect with creative writing as a means of self-discovery, expression, and empowerment. We believe writing is a powerful tool to help students find their voice, own their story, and see new possibilities for themselves.
We seek to guide young writers along every step of their literary journey, starting in elementary school and continuing through high school. Our programs grow alongside them, offering in-person workshops, online resources, and publishing opportunities. Throughout it all, we want students to feel seen, supported, and proud of what they create.
Our sister journal, Inkroot Lit, offers chances for our young writers to get their work seen by the world. Visit its website here to learn more about submitting or joining the staff.
I used to think writing was only about school assignments. The Inkroot Project showed me it could be fun and creative, and that my stories were worth something. Now I actually look forward to writing.
